Job Description:

Bycast Inc. is seeking an experienced documentation specialist to join our growing technical publications team. The team is responsible for a wide range of administrator and developer-level documentation, participates actively in UI design discussions, writes UI text, and has recently taken responsibility for the development of a customer support web portal. We currently develop most of our documentation in FrameMaker , where we single-source content for multiple audiences using conditional text. But we also write short MS Word documents, XML help files, and wiki pages, and are actively exploring other methods of delivering information such as an e-mail newsletter, a knowledgebase, and online help.

Bycast uses an Agile software development methodology, with writers participating as full members of development teams. Writers work closely with developers, product managers, and support personnel to estimate, develop, and test documentation in parallel with the software.

At Bycast documentation is an integral part of the product—no one says: “but no one reads the documentation anyway”.

Job Requirements:

We’re looking for an energetic, organized, and detail-oriented writer with excellent written and verbal communication skills, an aptitude for technology, and experience writing for a highly technical audience. To be considered for the position, you must have at least three years of experience working in the software industry and provide a portfolio of your work.

Specific required skills are:

• 3+ years of experience designing and writing software documentation
• Strong technical aptitude, an interest in learning new technologies, and an ability to write for a very technical audience
• Experience with FrameMaker, PhotoShop, Word, Visio, and Acrobat
• Experience single-sourcing documents with conditional text and variables to repurpose content for multiple audiences
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Any of the skills in the following list would be considered an asset:
• Knowledge of the storage industry, and an understanding of storage, server, and networking concepts
• Linux/Unix skills
• Experience with an Agile development methodology
• Project management experience, particularly with web-based projects
• Graphic design skills and a talent for creating flowcharts and technical diagrams
• Experience implementing improved documentation tools and processes
• Knowledge of document control processes and procedures
• Experience with API documentation, structured XML documentation, content analysis, context-sensitive help, and/or web-based delivery of information

To apply please forward your resume and cover letter to careers@bycast.com. Due to the expected volume of applications, only candidates selected for follow-up will be contacted.
