Position Description

Resolves technical issues regarding the operation and interaction of personal computer software and hardware in a Novell networked environment for faculty, staff and students. Installs a wide variety of software and hardware equipment on the local area network, in computer labs and on faculty, staff and student computers. Provides technical advice and support to help people effectively use computer hardware and software. Provides telephone, face-to-face and online (via e-mail) hardware and software support. Contacts vendors for technicial support on hardware and software. Assists with installation and verification of local area network equipment. Assists in maintaining the software aspects of over 700 computers. Assists in researching propective hardware and software purchases and makes recommendation on suitability of applications according to user needs. Performs other duties as requested in accordance with qualifications and requirements of the position.


Qualifications

High school graduation plus graduation from a recognised technical institute in computer and information technology or a combination in training and experience. Minimum three years' related experience providing hardware and software support in a networked environment. Have knowledge of Novell Netware and Microsoft Windows networking as well as the Microsoft Office Suite and Internet communications. Require effective oral and written communication, organizational, presentation and trouble-shooting skills and a high level of customer service with the desire to assist others. Ability to prioritize work, function as part of a team, multi-task and meet deadlines
