About the Job:
Interested in sharing your professional knowledge of bike mechanics with others using your adept editing and writing skills? Momentum Magazine is looking for a gear editor to vet, edit, and write content for the “Gear” section of our magazine.
About You:
• You are connected to the cycling industry and bike culture.
• You have experience working as a mechanic, either in a bike shop or in other parts of the industry.
• You have experience working with commuter cyclists.
• You are very knowledgeable about setting up bikes for everyday, urban riding.
• You have a proven background writing and editing for publication, particularly product reviews about transportation-specific bike products and accessories.

Momentum provides urban cyclists with the inspiration, information and resources to fully enjoy their riding experience and connect with local and global cycling communities.
Momentum currently produces 50,000 print copies, reaching a total readership of over 125,000 people, and its website, www.momentumplanet.com, averages 1000 unique visitors a day.
Job Responsibilities:
• Recruit and manage writers and photographers
• Research North American stories about bikes and bike accessories
• Fact checking, proofreading, making phone calls
• Plan, assign, and submit approximately 3 pages of content, including 3-4 articles per issue (every 2 months)
• Write a column that explores topics in the area of bike mechanics that would appeal to everyday, urban riders and commuters
• Enforce deadlines
• Copy edit all writing before it is submitted to layout
• Manage (small) editorial budget
• Report to Editor in Chief
Requirements:
• A background in and passion for writing and editing, preferably in a professional capacity
• A longstanding professional involvement in the cycling industry
• Experience managing writers and/or staff
• Ability to dedicate at least 20-30 hours for each issue (every two months)
• Ability to work from home
• Commitment to meeting deadlines
• Experience taking photographs would be an asset
